Book Six of the Artorian Chronicles
The Final Conquest
In 41 A.D., Claudius assumed the imperial throne, following the assassination of his nephew, Emperor Gaius Caligula. Soon after, he turns his eyes towards Britannia; the isle across the channel from Gaul, whose numerous tribes were in a constant state of warfare with each other. When several allied kingdoms call upon Rome for assistance in their constant struggles with hostile neighbors, Claudius seizes the initiative to finish what the Divine Julius Caesar began nearly a century before.
In Ostia, Artorius receives word that he is being recalled to active service with the legions, with his peers in the Twentieth Valeria selecting him as their new Master Centurion. It has been several generations since the Empire expanded its borders via conquest, and Artorius readies his men to spearhead a massive invasion force in what he knows will be his last campaign.
