Are you interested in the benefits of East meets West medicine?

Here's what practitioner Suraja Roychowdhury has to say about her path to acupuncture and her approach to holistic medicine:

"I am a Board certified and licensed Chinese Medical Practitioner with an understanding of the practice of medicine in the Eastern and Western styles.

I have always subscribed to a holistic approach to understanding human biology.  As a neuroscientist with a Ph.D in Pharmacology, I discovered pretty early on that bench research was not my thing -  too detailed, granular, microscopic, if you will.  I turned to a very exciting career in the pharmaceutical industry spending over 9 years in the clinical development arena studying depression, schizophrenia, epilepsy and sleep, and was still dissatisfied with the so called 'targeted-therapy approach'.  Where was the role of a holistic approach to the cause of disease, and patient care being considered?   It was at this point that I started considering a career in Chinese Medicine, and discovered a completely different, holistic approach to patient care, illness and wellness.

I earned my Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAOM) from the New England School of Acupuncture, the oldest and one of the best, accredited institutions of Oriental Medicine in the United States. I have studied Chinese and Japanese styles of acupuncture, Auricular acupuncture, Orthopedic acupuncture as well as Chinese Herbal Medicine from some of the best teachers in the country, and have extensive classroom, laboratory and clinical experience in the study and clinical practice of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine .

During my clinical training I have worked at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (Boston) , Pathways to Wellness (now closed, Boston) and at the New England School of Acupuncture clinic.

With my extensive background in both western and eastern medicine, I bring a unique perspective to patient care. My approach is patient- and results-oriented and I encourage my patients to take an active role in their health care.   Together, I believe that we can reach that crossing point from illness to health, and ultimately, wellness."
