Christina Cottingham was born and raised in Asheville, NC. Her creative ability and entrepreneurial spirit stems from generations of artists and designers.
At the University of North Carolina, Christina studied color photography darkroom printing under Yale graduates Jeff Whetstone and Pamela Pecchio. The multi-faceted discipline required a great amount of attention to detail, which translates to Christina's current work. Christina spent semesters studying art in Kyoto, Japan and at Studio Arts Centers International in Florence, Italy before graduating with honors with a BFA in Studio Art from UNC-CH.
Christina continued to train her eye when she went on to travel, study and work for the commercial photography, interior design and residential real estate industries. In 2009, Christina used imagery from pop culture, nature, art history and fashion to create a small collection of abstract mixed media paintings that drew immediate attention among local Charlotte art collectors. Since then, Christina Cottingham has been recognized for her quick brush strokes and brilliant use of color.
Over the last decade Christina has commissioned paintings and donated works to charity auctions such as The Mint Museum Auxiliary Syposium, Art with Heart, The Housing Opportunity Foundation, and The Junior League of Charlotte. All the while, her palette knife acrylic abstract paintings have generated tremendous attention and can be found in the homes of local Charlotte luminaries.
Christina currently lives and works in Charlotte, NC.
