Vik Muniz (Brazilian, b. 1961) is a contemporary photographer. Although he began as a sculptor, Muniz now primarily works in series that showcase his interest in photographic representation, and the re-presentation of works through photography as a means of revealing their process and material structure. Muniz mines images from the media and art history to create bold and often ironic works that incorporate objects such as diamonds, sugar, and chocolate syrup. His solo exhibition in 2009 at the Museum of Modern Art, Rio de Janeiro, had a record number of attendees only rivaled by Picasso.
