Make Your Bid to Support Dr. Jennifer Hoffmann!

Beginning in the Fall of 2022, the CRFJB will be funding Dr. Jennifer Hoffmann's research to study medications provided to children with mental health conditions in the emergency department. Medications may help some children to better regulate challenging behaviors such as acute agitation, allowing children to participate more meaningfully in their care, such as mental health assessments and brief therapeutic interventions. About half of children who receive medications in the emergency department for acute agitation have autism spectrum disorder or developmental delays. With this award, Dr. Hoffmann will use electronic health record data to study the effectiveness and safety of these medications. She will work to define an optimal outcome of medication treatment, by integrating perspectives of both clinicians and parents. Additionally, she will determine how best to adapt research processes to take into consideration the unique needs of these children. By helping children better engage in their emergency department care, Dr. Hoffmann hopes to improve children's mental health and overall well-being.
