If you met Rex walking around the barn, you'd never guess. You'd never know that he's been in physical therapy since he was 5 months old or that he has a team of 12 doctors and therapists following him.

You'd never guess he has Tuberous Sclerosis, a rare disorder that affects only one in ten thousand people. At just five months, no one knew if he'd ever be able to communicate or live beyond the confines of a wheelchair.

All you'd see is a boy who loves horses. He doesn't mind the flies, the sweat, the dirt, or the heat - being with a horse makes it all worth it. At Bit-by-Bit, Rex is just another kid. From the moment he first visited the stable, he was hooked. He said his dream was to ride independently, without anyone leading the horse. And he did it!

Then he dreamed of going faster - so he learned to trot. But he didn't stop there. He wanted to go really fast, so he learned to canter. Every goal Rex set for himself, he achieved.

No small feat for a boy who once had to be taught how to lift his own head. Rex's dreams have come true thanks to the volunteers and staff at Bit-by-Bit. With their expertise, patience, and support, they've helped Rex become the capable young horseman he is today. When words are confusing, they guide him with actions and help him understand.

They've celebrated every victory and encouraged him to take risks. But most importantly, they've given him a space where he can just be a kid - not a diagnosis.

Bob & Vicki Morency's daughter, Meggan, was a 17-year-old devoted rider who died in 2003 from injuries sustained while competing in a local equestrian event.

To honor her memory and to provide healing to other children, the Meggan Morency Wild West Night has been held regularly since its inception in 2003.

Proceeds from the event benefit children and veterans working through disabilities with the help of a horse at Bit-By-Bit Therapeutic Riding Center in Davie, Florida, dedicated to serving children and veterans through equine-assisted therapy.
