16th Annual Holiday Surfboard Auction - A Benefit for Surfers Healing
Starting on November 16, 2024, the 16th Annual Holiday Surfboard Auction will be on display at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel. Proceeds from this auction directly benefit Surfers Healing, a nonprofit organization that provides the gift of surfing to people living with autism. The online auction is available for bids until 3:00 p.m.PST on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
This year's auction highlights a selection of stunning surfboards from celebrated creatives, renowned artists and iconic shapers, on display at the oceanfront resort and auctioned online throughout the holiday season.
Donated surfboards include works by Wyland, professional surfer Kelly Slater, lead singer of Red Hot Chili Peppers Anthony Kiedis, Hobie, Alex Couwenberg, Brady Smith, Lola Clark, Steven Wan, Abegail Naguit and more.
Your participation is an invaluable part of our fundraising efforts! By bidding on a surfboard, you're helping raise funds for Surfers Healing so they may continue to provide complimentary surf camps throughout the year.
The Holiday Surfboard Auction was developed as a way to connect and pay homage to Dana Point's iconic surf history, while giving back to a local cause. As some may know, Hobie opened in 1958 as the first California surf shop on Pacific Coast Highway in Dana Point, revolutionizing the surfboard industry and birthing the ocean sport lifestyle that has become a backbone of the local community. As a way to continue honoring the city's surf heritage, The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel debuted the first Surfboard Auction in 2008.
Kindly note, that packing, shipping, and handling are not included - winning bidders are responsible for pick up and/or shipment of their board, including costs to package/ship. Boards can be picked up at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel or the purchaser can arrange for shipping. If shipped, we often work with a local UPS in Dana Point as the carrier. They have years of experience packaging/shipping our surfboards and do a wonderful job.
Pick up, packing, & shipping surf boards UPS Ground that are less than 7' approximately costs $500. Pick up, packing, & freighting surf boards that are more than 7' to 13' averages between $590 and $1,090. Kindly note, all surfboards over 7' can only go by freight service. Additionally, please keep in mind the above values are only estimates and may be more or less, dependent on the board size and where it is travelling.
We strongly recommend that you inquire with our UPS Partner at (949) 248-9150 ext.0 to get a quote of how much shipping to your address will cost, as price varies due to location. If you arrange shipment with our UPS partner, we will handle the pick-up arrangement with them but will need to know your shipping address and phone number. They will be in touch directly to confirm packaging/shipment costs. The hotel does not manage this. If you prefer to use a different carrier, you will need to arrange pick up directly with the carrier from the resort and next steps.
Boards will be available for pick-up and shipping after Wednesday, January 1, 2024. Boards must be picked up no later than Wednesday, January 15, 2024.
About Surfers Healing
Though Surfers Healing serves thousands, their mission exists because of one child. Izzy and Danielle Paskowitz founded Surfers Healing because of their son Isaiah. Isaiah has autism, and when he struggled with meltdowns and sensory overload, riding the waves with his father calmed him like nothing else. The weightlessness and rhythms of the ocean offer a surf therapy experience. Not everyone has a championship surfer for a Dad, so the Paskowitz family invited others to join them at the beach. Their idea caught on, and now Surfers Healing is a worldwide, grassroots nonprofit organization.
They are the original surf camp for children with autism and all of their events are free. Although autism now affects 1 in 59 children in the U.S., Surfers Healing doesn't think in thousands. They think in ones, because that's where they can effect change. One child. One family. One perfect day at the beach. Please visit www.surfershealing.org for more information.
