That was what the dirty disco • rare house • live music • live art • apparently secret society known as We Own the Night’s website says. Ok. Oh my god. Ok. I’m kind of really intrigued. Right? Where does it take place? Are there animal sacrifices? Are there robes with big hoods? I don’t know, but I do know that their website also considers “dancing your ass off and not giving a shit who was watching” laudable. So I’m kind of in love with them.
What I also know is that you get 4 free admissions to the next We Own the Night (Sept. 17th) AND 4 exclusive (not available for sale through his website) free digital prints from filmmaker and Pop artist Mr. Brainwash.
Did you go to see the art into the streets exhibit at MOCA? I wont hold it against you if you didn’t. I mean, I went but I’m clearly, like, a Medici in terms of my art connoisseur-y-ness….also it was free. Why was it free? Super ubiquitous street artist Banksy sponsored it. Therefore, I like Banksy. Aside from making me an arts patron, Banksy also directed the movie Exit Through the Gift Shop which is the story of Mr. Brainwash.
Why am I giving you this giant backstory? Because I am from LA and thought I knew everything about this city and then just researching this auction piece opened this whole new world of secret dance parties and documentary street artist families. And this was all from just the internet. Imagine what you’d see if you actually went there.
