Symphony Silicon Valley's 12th season includes:
- Eight brilliant soloists, featuring pianist Jon Nakamatsu playing the work that won him the Van Cliburn Gold Medal, and returning violinist Mayuko Kamio, who stepped in to dazzle Symphony audiences last fall.
- Monumental works like Symphonie Fantastique, Beethoven’s Eroica, and Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3.
- 3 new guest conductors joining 4 of the Symphony’s favorites for a lively array of musical leadership.
- Special features including a concerto for 15 timpani, another for bassoon, and the North American premiere of a concerto for bandoneon, the seductive voice of innumerable Argentine tangos.
- Brahms and Beethoven (twice); Stravinsky and Strauss; Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Liszt – and more.
- Plus three choirs with the orchestra in Carl Orff’s stunningly dramatic Carmina Burana.
Symphony Silicon Valley's 13th season includes:
- We invite you to a musical season ranging from Mozart to a 2015 world premiere, including Gypsy-inflected Russian jazz, operatic ballet, Berlioz, Beethoven, Brahms, Bruckner, Schumann and more.
- Three great pianists perform four concertos. Jon Nakamatsu gives us two favorites by Gershwin, Stephen Prutsman returns with Shostakovich’s most witty and engaging work, and Jeffrey Kahane makes his debut with Symphony Silicon Valley playing Beethoven.
- In the early 20th century, music took on a new character. Our season’s portrait of an era includes Ravel, Gershwin, Shostakovich, Respighi, Vaughan Williams, Elgar, Rachmaninoff and Debussy.
- Returning stars from the 2013-14 season include soloists Stephen Prutsman, Jon Nakamatsu, Mayuko Kamioand Maestra Kamensek; while Tatsuya Shimono returns twice to follow up his 2011-12 triumph. First-time guests include maestros John Nelson and Ware Stare, plus cellist Julian Schwarz and pianist Jeffrey Kahane.
- And we bring you an evening of works for orchestra plus chorus, including a world premiere by local composerPablo Furman, and Rachmaninoff’s haunting adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Bells.
