Item Description
Kampong Calabash
Carved by Penley Robins
This was one of the last remaining gourds on our tree following Hurricane Irma. It was rescued by Lisa Remeny and beautifully hard carved by Penley Robins, Calabash King. You will be the envy of all of your friends when you show them this one of a kind piece.
Calabash gourds ( fruit) are one of the most utilized trees in the tropics, popular and useful for making bowls, cups, ceremonial attire and musical instruments. The tree can produce dozens of fruit, ranging in size from a small gourd to a massive 10 pound sphere. Our Kampong tree was grafted by the late Larry Schokman, Kampong Director Emeritus for many years.
