Item Description
Collector's Plant
Microcycas calocoma- A Cuban native cycad- An extraordinary and extremely rare cycad from Cuba, the parents of this plant grow at The Montgomery Botanical Center in Coral Gables, who generously donated a plant for our auction. Still very rare in cultivation despite its 60 year heritage in Miami, this elegant and user-friendly cycad has a graceful crown of short leaves on a stout trunk. Small seedlings routinely fetch $ 200 or more, and are often priced at $ 100 per seedling leaf. Our small plant is ready for a larger pot, and 2-3 years away from being planted. The slow growing species is a hallmark of great cycad collections, yet only a few dozen exist in the US.
