When I made this portrait of Bear, it was not my intention to have him become my muse. Over time Bear became symbolic of the main tenant of my practice, to address the urban indigenous experience.
Lorsque j'ai réalisé ce portrait d'Ours, je n'avais pas l'intention d'en faire ma muse. Au fil du temps, l'ours est devenu le symbole de l'objectif principal de ma pratique, qui est d'aborder l'expérience urbaine autochtone.

Jeff Thomas is an urban-based Iroquois, self-taught photo-based storyteller, writer, public speaker, and independent curator, living in Ottawa, Ontario, and has works in major collections in Canada, the United States, and Europe, and recipient of a Governor General Award in the Visual Arts.
Jeff Thomas est un Iroquois urbain, un conteur-photographe autodidacte, un écrivain, un orateur et un commissaire indépendant. Il habite à Ottawa, en Ontario, et ses œuvres se trouvent dans des collections importantes au Canada, aux États-Unis et en Europe. Il a reçu le prix du gouverneur général en arts visuels.
