Description

"Codify Roe" by Nora Falk

Medium: Mixed Media. Fabric, wire, glass and semi-precious beads, paper

Size: 19" x 8"

Artist Statement:

Engelmacherin - Angel Maker. That's who women "in trouble" had to turn to in Austria before a law passed in 1973 (the same year that brought us Roe) that made abortions safe and legal . 50 years later, in the USA, evangelical misogynists want women to revert to back alley procedures with coat hangers and knitting needles. The codification of Roe vs Wade by the Congress could have protected a woman's right to reproductive freedom and healthcare choices. Now we live in the era of the Dobbs Decision. I am angry, and I dissent with this piece of art.

Artist Biography:

Nora was born and grew up in Vienna, with short stints in London and Dublin. She and her family moved to Marblehead in March of 2001. She's a language teacher, singer, actress, host-mother to foreign exchange students and award-winning quilt artist.
