Item Special Note
Lisa Alembik is an artist, educator and curator. She is the director of Agnes Scott College's Dalton Gallery, where she curates exhibits such as limitless, Still Water and Blackbird on your shoulder: stories & other truths from the South. Her drawings, paintings and installations have been exhibited throughout the southeast, including the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia and the Huntsville Museum. Her work tends to focus on cultural ideas of landscape, home and identity that are often influenced by the migrations of modern history.
This diptych comes from a body of work titled "Solace" which focuses on Diaspora, loss and an architecture of intimacy. Sites are chosen for where the everydayness of life happens: where one sleeps and cooks, loves and prays, and gathers as a community. Alembik interweaves history and place, actual, possible and imaginary.
