Item Description

Missing the Italian wine country?  Enjoy the next best thing with a "Tour of Italy" wine tasting you can have in your own home!  Wine tasting package includes six bottles of wine, with 2 each of the following high-quality wines:

Tenuta Di Capezzana's "Ghiaie della Furba 2000":  The first vineyard, made up of a Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, was situated on the pebbly, alluvial soil of the Furba Stream, after which the wine is named.  Today the wine is produced from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (30%), and Syrah (10%).  Ghiaie della Furba is matured for a year in barriques and laid down for a further 12 months in bottles.  In 2004, Wine Spectator gave this wine a rating of 94 with the following reviews: "Fantastic.  Very ripe and rich, with raisin and cured beef character.  Full-bodied with big, velvety tannins and a long, long finish.  A massive but impressive red.  Best ever from this estate."  It also received a 91 from Wine Enthusiast and a 90 from Wine Advocate, who stated that "Capezzana's tasty Ghiaie della Furba 2000..is just beginning to reveal the earliest hints of tertiary notes in its suggestions of tobacco, herbs, earthiness, leather, chocolate and blackberries on a full bodied, structured frame."

Le Paturnie 2003 Brunello: offers outstanding length on the palate, fine balance, and a lingering note of sweetness from the oak on the finish.  A second line of high quality wine was later devised, for this traditional manner of aging called for the wine to rest in Slavonia oak casks.  The rustic, hard-working, land-rooted Tuscan people whose tradition and knowledge of wine-making still survives in our modern time, have also conributed in the name giving of the wine --"Le Paturnie" meaning to have a fit of temper or to blow one's top.

Cecchi 2004 Vino Nobile Di Montepulciano:  one of the great Tuscan Sangiovese-based wines that thoroughly expresses the elegance of this grape.  In this denomination, the main grape variety in Sangiovese. Cecchi employs red wine vinification at controlled temperatures for approximately 21 days.  This followed by 24 months aging in small oak casks and an additional minimum of 3 months of bottle refinement.  Intense ruby red in color, tending towards garnet with prolonged aging.  The bouquet is characteristic of the varietal, an intense aroma of violet.  On the palate, the Vino Nobile delivers supple tannins, balance, and wonderful structure.
