Item Description

2 Bottles: The Domaine Raymond Usseglio et Fils, Chateauneuf du Pape Girard 2007 has a deeper ruby/purple hue and a slightly more fleshy texture, but otherwise is similar to the regular cuvee. With plenty of Provencal herb, lavender, smoke, meat juice, black cherry, and black currant characteristics, this rich, pure, sultry, opulent wine should drink well for 10 to 15 years. The name Usseglio is well-known in Chateauneuf du Pape since the Usseglio family immigrated from Italy during the Great Depression. There are two top domaines named Usseglio, that of Raymond and Pierre Usseglio. The Raymond Usseglio estate is now being run by Stephane Usseglio, who has introduced a new Mourvedre-based cuvee called La Parte des Anges. According to the Wine Advocate , the 2007s are the finest wines at Raymond Usseglio since their 1998s, and these may even eclipse them. WA. 92 points. 2 Bottles: The Gauby 2007 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Vieilles Vignes is relatively equally divided among Carignan, Grenache, and Syrah with a smaller amount of Mourvedre, and exposed to around 20% new wood. It smells of thyme, rosemary, fennel, and tar, along with ripe black fruits. With a bitter edge to its almost severe palate concentration of cassis, blackberry, juniper berry, resinous herbs, licorice, and tar, this strikingly dense, palate-staining cuvee exhibits a juiciness of fresh fruits and exuberance, as well as a refinement of tannins, that distinguish all of the best recent Gauby wines and that keep it from austerity. Amid a virtual torrent of finishing fruit is a diversity of impressions that, while hard-to-describe, can only be categorized as mineral. WA . 94 to 95 points.
