Item Description

You are invited to experience life on an island off the coast of Maine. Beaches and bell buoys, salt air and wooded trails. Beach comb to your heart’s content. Play tennis or bowl in the circa 1900’s bowling alley. An island without cars or cares. Easily accessed by ferry from Portland.

Embrace the comfort and charm of another era in a restored brick home, part of a century-old fort listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Diamond Cove is a small residential and vacation community on Great Diamond Island, in Casco Bay, two miles by ferry from Portland. Our secluded beaches abound with tidal pools and sea glass, even shards of crockery from the fort’s heyday. Explore miles of walking trails through the island’s silent old growth forest and along the water’s edge - you may encounter our elusive moose, a family of wandering deer, herons and osprey, perhaps a few seals.

A vacation at Diamond Cove offers a unique experience - the enchanting natural beauty of a Maine coastal island, coupled with the intriguing charm of a bygone way of life.

Among the numerous amenities enjoyed by Diamond Cove residents and guests are a popular gourmet restaurant, five private beaches, tennis courts, a heated outdoor pool, a general store, a marina, even the original gymnasium and vintage bowling alley, all within walking distance. Since there are no private automobiles, we enjoy the peace and magic of island living, combined with the beauty of a bygone era.

The Sergeants' Quarters are set back from the Parade Ground on a quiet lane, with well landscaped, private yard, brick patio and two porches. This charming two-family house, once home to Fort McKinley's non-commissioned officers and their families, offers a well-equipped modern kitchen and updated furnishings. All linens are included. There are two bedrooms and a bathroom on the second floor, as well as a lovely third floor bedroom (and bath) with a large skylight conveniently situated for late night stargazing.

Item Special Note

Available for a mutually agreed upon three day, two night stay in June or September. No pets or smoking please.  Shipping of item, if needed, is not included in bid price.
