Item Description
Take a Sunday night off next fall and spend an intellectual evening at the Middle School with Clay Roberson, MS English teacher. This annual event for adults is always fun, interesting, and thought provoking. This year we will be reading and discussing Mary Shelley's Frankenstein! Be prepared for a lively discussion on what the author says about science. As Clay puts it, "Shelley wrote it in the very throes of Europe's burgeoning interest in science. There she sits, writing a parable about science gone frighteningly wrong, in the midst of science reigning supreme: the first balloon flight, the discovery of the seventh planet of the solar system, and Darwin's storied voyage on the Beagle juxtaposed against this ghastly miscarriage of science." This is a great summer read. If you have a student who is coming into the Middle School years, this is a wonderful insight into the amazing world of the MS English classes. If you've had a student already go through the Middle School years, you'll enjoy the return! Dates will be confirmed with all participants in September 2010. This item is a "buy per seat" and will be limited to 35 people.
