Item Special Note

The ISO is "a different symphony for a different audience'...

a distinctive professional boutique symphony with a compelling and differentiated point of view

  • emphasizing US PREMIERE and one-of-a-kind presentations
  • individuating its musical product
  • providing fresh reasons to experience live music for a diverse musical audience.

The ISO is noted for producing signature music experiences with a social conscience in the region. In its metamorphic 09|10 season, the ISO distinguished itself as the first professional symphony in the United States to dedicate its artistic ethos to the interdisciplinary staging of symphonic performances. This news caught the attention of the League of American Orchestras which featured the ISO in its March/April edition of Symphony Magazine in an article entitled "More Than Meets the Ear." You can expect the ISO to honor the integrity of the world's most enduring music while staging productions in the most inventive ways imaginable.

A Different Symphony for a Different Audience

By design, the ISO is composed predominantly of young virtuosic talent. Maestro Guzman circles himself with emerging world-class performers, thus the average age of the ISO musician is 35. The ISO's home, Carpenter Performance Hall, is an intimate, humanly-scaled space in which every seat in the house offers patrons an up-close-and-personal, visceral, here-and-now experience. In addition to the ISO's 'home base' the ISO has entered into collaborative relationship with the Meadows School of the Arts at SMU in the fusion 10.11 season and is establishing a presence in Dallas for the first time.
