Item Description
America Martin, a Columbian-American fine artist based in Los Angeles, is a traveler between mediums, adventurous in the conquest of new terrain. Martin’s favorite landscape is that of the human form. Her work is distinguished by a command of line and color, making playful reference to both classic and indigenous art forms.
From 2000-2010 her work has been featured in over 25 solo and group exhibitions all over the country. Galleries in Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Santa Barbara, Venice, CA, New York City, Taos, Santa Fe and Park City have displayed her art. Locally, she is represented by JoAnne Artman Gallery in Laguna Beach. A decade of America’s drawings and paintings appear in the book, Insouciance, published in 2010 by Small Press Los Angeles.
Describing her Artful Violin --“A Painting, A Violin, A Song”-- America writes, “To me, a violin is a thousand poems tightly bundled, unsung, but with promise soaring,” “My piece is a painting of a young man holding a violin. It is wrapped around the violin like a colorful embrace atop a sea-stone base.” About her art, America says, ““The artist cannot be idle. It is only duty, love and discipline that make art… There is no choosing this life. An artist paints because she must.”
America’s violin will be displayed at Artman Gallery, 326 North Coast Hwy., Laguna Beach
