Item Description
As described by 5th graders, Alex Dailey, and Will Moxim:
"Even better than the fourth-grade basket, the fifth-grade basket has fewer items, but they are ten times more extravagant. Starting with the most spectacular item, we have an amazing American flag which was flown over the United States Capitol on October 15, 2010, in honor of the 60th anniversary of Advent Episcopal School! This basket also includes a certificate from the office of the Architect of the Capitol. Another item is the appealing Abraham Lincoln bicentennial pin painted by the renowned D.C. artist Ann Hand. This fabulous pin was commissioned in honor of the bicentennial of Lincoln’s birth on Feb. 12, 2009. Another amazing item is an outstanding book, Washington: A Life, by Ron Chernow. The basket also includes a three-disk DVD set of the HBO series based on this Pulitzer Prize winning book. And one of the best items included in the basket is a bottle of rainwater Madeira. The best part is (drum roll with dramatic music) the handmade picnic basket from the Peterborough Basket Company! You have to get this ultimate gift basket of all time!"
•An encased American flag which was flown over the United States Capitol on October 15, 2010 in honor of the 60th anniversary of Advent Episcopal School. A certificate from the office of The Architect of the Capitol is included.
•The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Pin, by renowned Washington DC artist, Ann Hand. Commissioned in honor of the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birth on February 12, 2009, The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Pin is inspired by the design from Lincoln’s coat. Lincoln wore the coat for his second inauguration and was wearing the coat on the night of his assassination.
•Washington: A Life. by Ron Chernow, December 2010. Publisher’s Weekly says that Chernow makes familiar scenes fresh (like the crossing of the Delaware) and expertly brings the provisional revolutionary and early Republican eras to life.
•John Adams, 3 Disc Set of the HBO miniseries event that depicts the extraordinary life and times of one of America’s least understood, and most underestimated, founding fathers: John Adams. Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning book by David McCullough, starring Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney.
•A bottle of medium dry rainwater Madeira. Cooking Light magazine calls Madeira the most historic wine in America. The founding fathers toasted the signing of the Declaration of Independence with Madeira.
•All of this is included in a handmade picnic basket from Peterborough, New Hampshire, made by the Peterboro Basket Co.
Many thanks to the 5th Grade classes!!
