Our Philosophy
Optimal health is the goal for every patient. We provide effective, natural health care solutions by treating the whole person: body, mind and spirit. We seek balancing solutions that are drug-free and have no side effects. We believe in being part of your wellness team by personalizing acupuncture treatments according to the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine designed to your specific and immediate needs.
In addition to regular health care treatment, we provide you with tools and education to personally achieve optimal health and wellness.
Kym is a licensed acupuncturist who earned her Master's degree from the Arizona School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Kym combines her compassionate nature and excellent listening skills with a unique blend of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She formulates individual treatment plans for each patient using a combination of Acupuncture, Cupping, Guasha, Moxibustion, Tui Na, Chinese Herbal Formulas, Nutrition, Western Herbals, Homeopathy, and Stress Reduction Techniques.
Kym's strong love and background in nutrition provides a high standard in health enhancement. She feels that her role as a healer is to help eliminate the suffering of the spirit as well as the physical manifestation of disease.
What will my first appointment be like?
We want you to feel at home right away so things are professional but relaxed and friendly. There are a couple of forms that you will be asked to fill out and sign outlining our policies. You will probably have already received your Health History form via email and brought that with you completed. Doing this in advance expedites your appointment so that you can have more time to meet with our Acupuncturist, Kym Kleiman M.Ac., L.Ac., Dipl.Ac., Board Certified Acupuncturist (NCCAOM).
Kym may spend up to 2 hours with you. During this time she is getting to know you on many levels, through information on your Health History form, by observing you and talking to you she is assessing your condition from both a Western Medical perspective and a Traditional Chinese Medical perspective. Her observations during this interview allow her to understand the areas in your life that may be out of balance and causing your specific disease manifestation. We encourage Patients to speak freely.
This deep understanding of you as an individual, provides her with the clues she needs to design a specific wellness plan that you will employ as a team to bring you back to alignment. Kym is very clear that the Practitioner/Patient relationship is a team situation. The greatest healing occurs, when the willingness of the individual is activated.
After your private, in depth Health Interview Kym will allow you time to prepare in one of our comfortable treatment rooms. We ask that you wear comfortable loose clothing. She will then begin your Acupuncture treatment by looking at your tongue and taking your pulses. The treatment may include Acupuncture, Cupping, Moxibustion, Tui Na. (See our Services page for descriptions on these treatments.) Kym's background in Nutrition and Natural Foods enable her to provide you with individualized dietary and lifestyle suggestions to employ on your own between treatments. She may give you take-home assignments.
Acupuncture in General
Acupuncture is based on a system of points mapped throughout the body used for over 2000 years to treat various health conditions. It is a safe and effective modality of health care used to treat the body as a whole. In other words, acupuncture seeks to treat the cause of a disharmony and not just the symptom alone. It is a holistic health care system that can assist you in achieving and maintaining optimal health and wellness by activating the body's own healing and restorative abilities.
Viewing the human body as a garden or landscape is a great metaphor for demonstrating the ideas behind Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Thousands of years ago the Chinese used their relationships with nature and the landscape to understand the workings of the human body, how to promote health, and create healing. Their understanding gave birth to the concepts of this ancient healing modality.
Think of the Acupuncturist as the Caretaker or Gardener of this fleshy landscape whose prime objective is to promote vitality, harmony, health, balance, and beauty. To achieve this objective it is critical that certain elements are included in the care. In this case the Caretaker's tools are needles, cups, moxa, Tui Na massage, herbal formulas, and nutritional counseling. All of which nutrure the tender garden and provide nourishment, care, and healing.
