Item Description

Typically worn to weddings or formal receptions for family members, a kuro tomesode (tome=short, sode=sleeved)kimono is black and worn by older or married women.  This exceptional kimono is made of 100% silk crepe, including the white lining. Five "Maru ni Tsuta" kamons (family crests) are printed on it and it has fabulous hand embroidered and yuzen dyed chrysanthemums (kiku) along the bottom edge.  This is a rare example of skillful hand craftsmanship with absolutely striking details in traditional Japanese Tomesode style from the middle of the 20th century.
Today, kimonos of this quality are often displayed on a wall and make a perfect centerpiece for your living room or entry way.
