Item Description

Peter, the artist, grew up in the northern woods of Ontario, Canada along the rugged and picturesque shores of Lake Superior. His environment instilled in him a great love of the outdoors and all of nature's wonders. At age 14, Peter moved to Toronto with his family. Upon entering Grade 10 Peter's high school art teacher was quick to recognize his artistic talents and sent him to the private New School of Art. He started in 1974 entering his numerous paintings of flowers, animals and portraiture in local exhibitions and competitions. These works were executed in a number of different mediums. Peter had developed his own style by combining airbrush technique, pencil, guache, watercolour and ink. By 1975 he was winning every award available. In 1982 he began working on a series of women. Peter had discovered that the most significant effect of the then, rare 'airbrush' was the controlled graduations that he could achieve while depicting the soft and supple faces of the women he choose to paint. Who were these women? Peter had chosen some of the great silver screen stars of the thirties and forties. The simple mention of their names, Marlene Dietrich, Ingrid Bergman, Marilyn Monroe... all conjure an instant vision of beauty, glamour and sophistication. (Peter Fromme.com)

Carol Bolt's imagery is attractive and appealing, After all, who could hate flowers. However, Ms. Bolt's compositions have more to recommend then than the superficial attractiveness of subject.

Ms. Bolt is a rarity. She is serious botanical artist. Few practitioners of this fine and exciting craft remain. Indeed, she is so prominent in her field that she instructs at the New York Horticulture Society.

Prints of botanical art are becoming increasingly rare and are highly prized collectors items. The nature of the work requires remarkable qualities, a fine eye combined with a sure hand and a precise sense of color and grasp of form. The work is extremely time consuming and exacting. Serious flower paintings requires an enormous amount of looking and fastidious rendering. The thin transparent planes of color which make for the final image are painted with utter precision. We see this care and loving craftsmanship in Ms. Bolt's work.

Image with white border is approximately 26" x 14"; actual image is approximately 24" x 12"
