Cloud Atlas inspired mask designed by Anne Hanley
Artist Statement: My goal as the artist was to examine the purpose of the project and to compliment the extraordinary talents and accomplishments of Mr. Tom Hanks. I chose to represent Mr. Hanks' extraordinary current movie of 2012 "Cloud Atlas". My idea was to create a mask that incorporates the theme of the movie and offers a representational message and understanding for children that we are all connected. Our goals are all very similar and we travel in and out of moments in our lives where we are influenced by so many different people. Tom Hanks achieves this in the movie. The decision Tom makes affects the lives of someone and that person's decision affects the next, and so it continues as the delicate thread from one life to the next. The symbol of the ship and sail is to understand that we are constantly traveling and expanding our knowledge. Despite what comes our way we are traveling through time and should always be looking forward to the next adventure.
