Item Description

Travel through Florida history with admission for two to the Pioneer Florida Museum!

The Pioneer Florida Museum, located on a 20-acre wooded hillside near Dade City, FL, features a variety of collections that illustrate Florida's pioneer heritage, including dolls and toys, textiles, farm equipment, vintage buggies and carriages, and a steam engine.

The museum also features a sugar cane exhibit and working cane syrup mill. Sugar cane juice is rendered from sugar cane cultivated on the museum grounds using a mill powered by a mule or a horse, then cooked down into syrup in an 80-gallon syrup kettle.

The museum also features eight historically significant buildings that were moved from surrounding Pasco County communities to the museum grounds, including:

  • Old Lacoochee School, restored and furnished in the style of the one room schools prevalent in Pioneer Florida
  • John Overstreet House, a typical pioneer-era dwelling constructed of native heart pine
  • C.C. Smith General Store, furnished with 1920s-era meat scales, butcher block, yard goods by the bolt, cooking pans, kettles and many other artifacts.
