Item Description

1916 Kurtzmann 55" Upright Piano serial number 58310, Walnut. Manufactured and hand crafted piano at the turn of the 20th Century. This piano is in good condition. There are a few dings and scrapes on the side, bottom and edges from moving it but no major damage. We purchased this piano from a doctor about 25 years ago. Our children used it for their piano lessons. We have had it tuned in the past. There is one lower key that sometimes skips when playing it. It will need to be tuned. Twenty-five years ago, the piano technician told us when we first tuned it that it could use some more fine tuning and more work. We were and are happy with it the way it is. It has a warm sounding tone. It is a beautiful piano. The reason we are selling it is because we bought a player piano. Thank you for looking. Following is interesting history about this piano. From about 1900-1916, the Arts & Crafts Movement was a major force in American design. Although the Arts & Crafts design was very popular during the early 20th century, piano makers were slow to adapt to the Mission/Arts & Crafts design. Furniture manufactures were quick to jump on the new trend of the Craftsman style, but piano makers were slow to recognize just how important the Arts & Crafts Movement really was. A handful of manufactures attempted to build pianos in the Craftsman/Mission style, but because the Movement was so short-lived, most of them didn't see the significance of the Arts & Crafts Movement until it was too late; the Arts & Crafts Movement was over before 1920. Sadly, very few manufacturers ever offered Craftsman style pianos, and as a result, original specimens are exceedingly rare today.
