Item Description
Ever been to Mag.pi in Studio City? It's a fab little boutique featuring many local designers and products that support great causes. This Studio City bag, is one example, produced out of the Bangladesh Project.
The Bangladesh Project:
These 100% jute fiber reusable Studio City bags represent mag.pi's involvement in the Bangladesh Project. In 2009, Mag.pi partnered with Saidpur Enterprises, a co-op of just over 70 artisans, to help build an international market for the resilient shopping bags that the co-op was producing. With the addition of sturdy, vegetable-tanned leather handles and a waterproof lining, they created a proven product that connects the artisans of Bangladesh with people across the globe.
Not only does the co-op provide fair wage jobs for Bangladeshi women, it also contributes a portion of its profits to social and educational projects in the community of Saidpur. Most recently, the co-op purchased school supplies for over 400 local children, and they are working with us to build the Bangladesh Sewing Academy. The Sewing Academy will teach job skills to local women every six months.
By supporting what we call "advocacy through industry," those purchasing these bags help to create life-changing opportunities in the community of Saidpur, Bangladesh.
