Item Description
For the first time since the Heart of Chan Pilgrimage and Tour to Taiwan began in 2012, host Tallahassee Chan Center is extending an invitation to Buddhist practitioners of all traditions to experience this remarkable place, visiting the beautiful Dharma Drum Mountain and touring nearby Taipei, July 5 to 18, 2016.
Guo Gu of the Tallahassee Chan Center will guide the pilgrimage. The Chan retreat intensive, led by Chan Hall master Venerable Guo Yuan, will take place July 7 to 14. Following the retreat pilgrims will visit Taipei and tour important cultural and scenic sites, experiencing the beauty of Taiwan and its people. This is fabulous opportunity to recharge the spirit and explore another part of the Buddhist world.
Itinerary (subject to change):
- July 5: Arrival Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. Bus transport to Dharma Drum Mountain on outskirts of Taipei City.
- July 6: Rest and explore Dharma Drum Mountain monastic complex.
- July 7: Retreat begins afternoon.
- July 14: Retreat ends noon. Visit Yangmingshan National Park and natural springs.
- July 15-17: Visit National Palace Museum, tea house, shopping district, and night market in Taipei.
The late Master Sheng Yen's teaching has two major components: uniting the major schools of Chinese Buddhism through Chan and promoting the study of Chinese Buddhism. He was concerned with adapting the Dharma to different places, cultures, and modern times. He has built the Dharma Drum Mountain practice and study complex as an integrated global Buddhism for modern people.
Item Special Note
Participants must speak fluent English and have practiced buddhadharma for a minimum of two years. Participants also must have done at least one meditation retreat.
Includes: round trip airfare for one from US, Candada, or Europe, to Taiwan, retreat registration, shared accommodation and meals.
Does not include: ground transportation (total approx. $50US), expenses related to days spent prior to or beyond pilgrimage dates, excess checked baggage, phone calls, faxes, laundry, medical and travel insurance coverage.
