Item Description
I purchased several copies of this book in Bankgok when it was first published in 2002 and this book has remained wrapped and tucked away since that time. It has never been opened and is in pristine condition.
As a frequent traveler to Burma beginning in the late 1990's I was thrilled to find a book that explained much of the life of not only those in power but a description of the daiy lives and customs of the people who served them. The Shan, a large tribal group in Burma are some of the finest craftsmen and silversmiths in Burma and have a unique culture.
A great read, this book details the life of a young Shan girl, born into royalty only to be bartered into a harsh marriage. I was hooked the minute that I saw the forward had been written by Bertil Lintner, respected journalist and long time "soldier " in Burmese struggles against opppression. I was even more taken with the book after lending it to a friend who told me that an exiled Burmese friend verified the authenticity of the many details, saying that she, herself, had grown up in that very household.
The book will be sent boxed, by insured post, with the buyer paying shipping, which may vary depending upon the destination.
