St. Patrick Church - Stained Glass Window History: Robert Joseph Wysocki, originally from Alpena, Michigan, was born 25 December 1919 and died Tuesday 14 May 2002 at his home in Raleigh, North Carolina. He migrated to North Carolina due to WWII when he was stationed in North Carolina in the US Army; during this time he met his wife, Frances Overton Wysocki. Wysocki was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army at the end of WWII. But during the Korean Conflict, he was recalled and stationed in Germany - it was during his time in Germany and Europe that Wysocki began to visit various cathedrals and view the stained glass. When he returned to NC, he began to sell stained glass for a number of other stained glass studios and learned the craft. Wysocki himself was not an artist; he was the studio ornery who during the life of the studio, employed various artists to design stained glass windows. Speculation has it that during the time frame the St. Patrick's window was created the artist most likely to have crafted it was Madonna Jones. Several artists also employed during this time frame included Fred Olds; Laverne Wells; Martha Farley; and John Nussbaum. Mr. Wysocki had a high degree of intelligence and appeared to be a workaholic. He spent a lot of time teaching the business of manufacturing and building stained glass windows. If it were not for him and his business, which hired me as an after school worker thru high school and college, I would not be the owner and operator of the business he opened in 1958 known as Stained Glass Associates. I would only hope that he would be proud to know that his business has continued after his death and he is greatly missed by many. Michael A. Strickland Stained Glass Associates, Inc.
