Created and donated by California artist Inna Cherneykina just for our 25th anniversary auction, “Holding Space” is a stunning piece of art. In this beautiful Impressionist-style painting, the book’s pages are open to the soaring Chartres Cathedral and its beloved labyrinth. An invitation to contemplation? A reminder of your own pilgrimage? Or the one you hope to make? Perhaps just the calm beauty you can appreciate every day. It is your book. Your story. In true still life style, pomegranates provide contrast in color and shape and hold this iconic space forever in view. This oil on canvas board painting itself measures 8” x 12” but it comes framed, so the final size is approximately 10” x 14” overall.
About the artist…
Born in Sergiev Posad, near Moscow, Inna Cherneykina discovered her passion for drawing and painting early and practiced doing portraits of family and friends. She was supported by her father, whose admiration of impressionism and encouragement certainly helped nurture her art. By age 10, Inna was accepted into art school and by 14 she was studying under noted painter, Ivan Kharchenko. In 1988, she entered Moscow University’s Masters Program of Art and Graphics. After graduating, she expanded her art into the growing area of computer graphics. In 1997, that work brought her to the U.S., which she has long called home. Even with her successful career in computer graphics, Inna never left her first love of painting and drawing in watercolors, pastels and on silk and she continued studying with noted painters in varied disciplines. Drawing on influences from Plein Air, nature, oil painting and experimenting with color, Inna brings verve, inspiration and clarity to her work. Still life painting is her favorite genre.
Inna is a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society, a Signature Member of National Oil and Acrylic Painters and a Member of the California Art Club. Her work is shown in California galleries. It has also been shown in numerous California and National exhibitions and competitions where she has won several awards.
