About the Work: “Union of Arms” was created during Vasquez’s time at The Anderson Ranch through Oolite Art’s Home+Away Residency program.
Bio: Michael Vasquez attended New World School of the Arts in Miami, FL, where he graduated with a BFA in 2005. He is most recognized for his figurative paintings and portraiture that explore identity and the cultivation of community and belonging amidst an inherent social disposition of broken homes and marginalized neighborhoods.
Vasquez has mounted solo museum exhibitions at the Kemper Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO; and the MDC Museum of Art + Design, Miami, FL. His work has been included in group shows at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, Washington DC; the Americas Society, New York, NY; and in Florida at the Orlando Museum of Art, the Frost Art Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Bass Museum, Miami Art Museum, and the Naples Museum of Art, amongst others.
Vasquez’s work is a part of many notable collections including the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, the Perez Art Museum Miami, NSU Museum of Art, The Dean Collection, the Franks-Suss Collection, the Microsoft Art Collection, the Montblanc Art Collection, and The Rubell Family Collection.
