Item Description
This classic 9 7/8” X 10 ½” basket is a picture post card of the annual saguaro fruit harvest which gathers the fruit to make wine and syrup. It was woven in a 4-color polychrome by an unknown weaver in 1940-1950. The basket shows female pickers with hats on wielding the long saguaro rib poles, the red weft material representing the red fruit is harvested from the Spanish Bayonet or Banana Yucca Cactus and the flying doves are woven in with black Devil’s Claw. The appraisal of value is provided by Terry DeWald, a member of the Antique Tribal Art Dealers Association.
