Item Description
This 15-inch basket is woven from native sumac rods and wefts, colored and using vegetable dyes. This basket explains how the early Navajo people emerged from the underworld through the Spirit Line Opening and this basket is still used today by Navajo Medicine Men in curing the ill in conjunction with Sand paintings. These baskets are also an important part of a traditional Navajo wedding. Circa 1940. The appraisal of value is provided by Terry DeWald, a member of the Antique Tribal Art Dealers Association.
