Item Description

This 58-inch x 58-inch classic revival Navajo third phase chief blanket was woven and sold at the famous Hubbell Trading Post (the only trading post that is a U.S. National Monument). It includes a photo of the weaver Nina Yazzie with trader Billy Malone (taken in 1996). It still has its prized red ribbon attached from the old O’odham Tash Indian Ceremonial Celebration which was held each February in Casa Grande. This blanket is more special because it is technically a Woman’s Third Phase Chief Blanket because it has grey colored background stripes differentiating it from a man’s blanket that traditionally has bright white stripes. This feature makes the blanket much more subtle and highly collectible. The appraisal of value is provided by Terry DeWald, a member of the Antique Tribal Art Dealers Association.
