Get Waves, a hand-painted series by MelonJames, creates the idea that we all are individual waves that are part of the larger ocean. We all have much in common as human beings, yet we are unique in our identities, our fingerprints, and our ideas. MelonJames uses the unique patterns and blends of color to symbolize the individuality of human beings. Each wave separates itself from the next-giving it its own identity, yet in a macro scale, these waves are all similar. This collection of waves, as a whole, symbolizes the greater ocean where all waves belong. MelonJames recognizes that our uniqueness is what makes us beautiful in our own way, but simultaneously remindes us that we are equally small in the greater world.

ABOUT MELONJAMES:

Scrawling rooftops and scaling billboards is a dangerous way for a graffiti writer to get noticed. Melon didn’t mind. He used to hop on the trains moving through his old Chicago neighborhood of Humboldt Park, seeing more of the city beyond his block. Melon credits graffiti writing with saving him from gang life. He went from the edges of the law in Chicago to painting murals commissioned by the city itself. Melon moved to Hawaii in 2001, where he embedded himself in the local urban art scene. Lavish striking blues and turquoise, bold pinks and rich greens, Melon’s unique style is inspired by his surroundings.
