Pilates is a form of exercise designed to build flexibility, strength, and endurance by focusing on correct spinal alignment.
The body awareness developed through Pilates can help with everything from competing in a triathlon to working in your garden.
Joseph Pilates believed that physical and mental health are interrelated, so he developed a series of exercises intended to strengthen both body and mind. To achieve this mind-body connection, Pilates used the principles of concentration, control, center, flow, precision, and breathing. As he was caring for bedridden soldiers, he invented several apparatuses that would attach to hospital beds. These have since evolved into modern-day Pilates equipment such as the Reformer and the trapeze table, or Cadillac.
Pilates teaches you to be in control of your body and not at its mercy. This control enables you to be your best as you move throughout your day and your life.
