Olivia Johnston is a lens-based artist living and working in Ottawa, Canada. She uses a variety of photographic strategies as a means to explore questions about the photographic image, portraiture, and art history; the self, the body and illness; and the photograph’s relationship with memory. She uses her artistic practice as a means to explore social issues, practices of representation, and the boundaries and biases within her own and others’ belief systems. She uses traditional photographic processes as well as digital strategies in her work.
Olivia Johnston est une artiste œuvrant en photographie qui habite et travaille à Ottawa, au Canada. Avec une variété de stratégies photographiques, elle explore les thèmes de l’image photographique, du portrait et de l’histoire de l’art ; du moi, du corps et de la maladie ; et de la relation de la photographie avec la mémoire. Sa pratique artistique lui permet d’explorer des questions sociales, des pratiques de représentation, ainsi que les limites et les préjugés de son propre système de croyances et de celui des autres. Elle utilise des procédés photographiques traditionnels ainsi que des stratégies numériques dans son travail.
