About the piece: Designed for the cover art of a record album by Mousse T, entitled Gourmet de Funk, depicting a rainbow image of a woman’s head.
About the artist: Werner Berges (1941-2017), German, studied advertising art at the Bremen Academy of Arts and completing his studies at the Berlin University of Arts in 1968. By the mid-1960s, Pop Art had become a movement in Germany. Berges is known as a pioneer of the German Pop Art movement. Berges achieved widespread recognition in the 1970s with his iconic imagery of cheerful, smiling women. His works utilize the visual techniques and references of mass advertising and reproduction, using multiplication and seriality, and often layered with painted, cut-out, laminated shapes. Berges’ works have been included in over 200 solo exhibitions throughout Europe.
