Item Description

"Scrimschalck" by Peter Schalck

Medium: Watercolor, Acrylic, Modeling Clay, Epoxy Resin.

Size: 54" x 12"

Suitable for outdoor display. Subject to fading or discoloration if displayed in direct sunlight for extended periods.

Artist Statement:

In this piece I tried to capture the spirit of New England?s whaling history by paying homage to the art of scrimshaw. I used a wash of water color and acrylic paint to mimic the apperance of whale bone. I sculpted the whale?s teeth from modeling clay, painted with a watercolor wash and coated with epoxy. Using a black acrylic paint pen, I rendered the iconic locations of Marblehead that are forever etched in my heart and soul.
