Item Description
"Homage to Hokusai" by Ruth Rooks
Medium: watercolor/gouache (protected with acrylic)
Size: 19" x 8"
Artist Statement:
Recently, my family and I went to the Museum of Fine Arts to view the Hokusai exhibit - the Japanese artist reknowned for his painting "The Wave. It was an exhibit of his work as well as those influenced by him both students and contemporary artists. My cod represents his influence on me!
Artist Biography:
I have been in the arts literally all of my life - beginning as most children do by coloring and making things. I took this 'hobby' to a more financially lucrative level as a young adult when I became the arts and crafts director of a very popular day camp back in the 50's! I then followed it by teaching art to every age group but mostly and preferably middle-school aged students. When I left teaching, I pursued all craft options by going to classes at the De Cordova Museum in Lincoln, MA as well as the Barn Work shop in Danvers, MA. I did hand built pottery, wheel thrown pottery ,silver jewelry, silver forging, silk painting, weaving - all of them! However, I had to make a decision - my studio wasn't that big! I became a serious painter. I now paint in all mediums with a preference to gouache, or opaque watercolor. I have no preference as to what I paint - I just like doing it! I am a member of several art organizations. It is my hope and desire that all will continue - with maybe more sales!
