Artist statement: This painting conveys the multifaceted nature of the ocean. One side depicts a grid pattern. This is an abstracted and organized presentation of the color spectrum of the sea. Green depicts the vibrant seaweed, algae & eel grass local to us. Various shades of blue to explore the shifting colors, as the ocean changes depth. Silver symbolizes the glimmers that catch your eye as the sun hits the water on a beautiful sunny day. They overlay each other, they blend & flow into each other much like the tides move in & out. There is a structure to the ocean. The delicate balance we must obey to ensure she is protected.
Conversely there are fluid golden swirls of waves. The counter to the structure on the opposite side. Depicting the oceans organic beauty & movement. The gold represents the oceans bounty & wealth it brings forth. Abundance in forms of the food, joy & prosperity. The sea provides us with food from fishing & shell fishing. Prosperity in forms of boat building, construction & tourism. As people flock to our golden shores they create beautiful memories. A place where we live & visit, share stories, swim with your family & friends along these gilded Chatham shores.
