2) “Near Ottawa River, Hawkesbury” 15.5” x 13.75" Framed Artwork

Ben Babelowsky (Canadian, 1932-2019) is a famed Ottawa-based artist known for works that depict the area’s heritage and waterways. Babelowsky’s paintings of the Rideau Canal and other significant scenes around the capital are a fixture at city hall, libraries, embassies, boardrooms and living rooms.

During his 30-year career at the Citizen, Babelowsky was a tireless promoter of the Citizen brand, ensuring the paper played a role in fundraising and charity events. Some of his ideas were master strokes: Mills says a 2009 estimate that Babelowsky’s artwork raised more than $2 million for charity over the years “is not an exaggeration.”
