Journey with Treehouse Shakers on an oceanic discovery play for ages 18-24 months with Sail Away. Specifically tailored to the very early walkers, Sail Away, is a mobile exploration experience piece for toddlers who want to wiggle, move, walk and run, in a fully immersive first-time play experience. Conceived and written by Mara McEwin, with choreography by Rathi Varma, the piece is performed by three performers, who are the dancers, puppeteers and play-makers. Sail Away explores the magnificence of the ocean through a sensory experiential journey of visuals, sounds, objects, some language, and an open concept of play.

Conceived, Written and Directed by Mara McEwin
Choreography by Rathi Varma
Costumes, Puppetry & Props by Patti Gilstrap
Music by Mario Giacalone
Scenic Design by Jung Griffin

About Treehouse Shakers
Treehouse Shakers’ mission is to create original dance-plays that encourage multi-generational audiences to experience a connection to their community. Our purpose remains as it was when we created our first dance-play in 1997: to capture the artistically rich beauty and simplicity of the human imagination. Melding modern dance, music and interactive visual elements with a theatrical script, our repertoire includes 20 works that explore narrative styles through universal themes addressing every age level within youth programming. Transcending race, gender and socioeconomic status, past themes have explored imagination, courage and integrity.

As one of New York’s only theater and dance companies creating original work for young audiences, our goal is to provide inventive, intelligent & engaging performances that nurture creative thought and inspire dialogue. With each new work, we set the bar higher, challenging our artistic process and the thinking of young audiences. Increasing the reach of our work, we tour nationally and partner with local schools and non-profits to provide thousands of low-cost tickets to underserved youth and families. Solidifying our role in the American theater, we were the first U.S. company to tour a play specifically for babies. Complimenting performances, THS provides teacher trainings and residencies for students that focus on the art of storytelling through dance, theater, and writing.
