In 1923, at the age of 28, Madame Beatrice Alexander Behrman founded the Alexander Doll Company. Having grown up in her stepfather’s doll hospital on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, she believed dolls should be played with and loved—without breaking like the porcelain dolls of her time, and without sacrificing details or quality. With her desire to make dolls that last along with her keen understanding of the value of doll play in teaching children kindness and compassion, Madame Alexander not only fulfilled her dream, but her dolls have been a part of American life for generations.
In 1923, Madame Beatrice Alexander, a true American original, founded the Alexander Doll Company that would revolutionize the doll industry. Today, her legacy lives on as the Madame Alexander brand continues to make inspiring dolls that reflect a diverse, evolving world and creates kind kids for generations to come.
Red Boy is 8" tall --- it comes from the painting The Red Boy, or Master Lambton, the popular names for a portrait made in 1825 by Sir Thomas Lawrence. It is officially entitled with the name of its subject, Charles William Lambton, who was the elder son of John Lambton (later created Earl of Durham).
