Melanie dai Medeiros is an interdisciplinary artist working primary in RI. She obtained her MFA from Mass College of Art & Design in 2020. This year she was awarded the Make Art Grant from the RI State Council on the Arts, placed first at the Warwick Center for the Arts, been a juror for the Bristol Art Museums Black and White show at the Rogers Free Library, and is an active member of The Collaborative in Warren, RI and Pawtucket Arts Collaborative.
This piece is inspired by the sudden sweeping rain storms that can pop up in unsettled skies over Narragansett Bay. It is a collagraph print. Collagraphy is a printmaking process in which materials are applied to a rigid substrate. The plate was inked with a roller and paintbrush or some combination thereof. Ink or pigment is applied to the resulting collage and the board is used to print onto paper using a printing press. This is a small edition series and each piece is unique.
