Item Description
Wire sculpture
15" x 8" x 1.5"
Tom Mahard has a bachelor's degree from Bates College, but no formal art training. He is a long-time special lecturer in theatre at Oakland University in Rochester MI, with an active professional life, in theatre, on television, and in the movies. In 2020, Tom received a Wilde award for his career of exceptional work on stage and his lifetime of devotion to Michigan's theatre community as an actor and teacher. His film credits include Gran Torino, The Sponsor and Detroiters.
This minimalist sculpture by Tom Mahard is framed in a black metal shadow-box and was created by using one continuous piece of black copper wire resulting in a relief of two people caught in each other's gaze. Tom considers his work "three-dimensional line drawing" which he began mid-life after the death of his father, an accomplished set designer, as a way to relieve stress and make something whimsical from a large spool of wire.
