Thom Cassotta is a graduate of Paier College of Art who studied at the Palazzo Gallenga in Perugia, Italy. The artist's inspiration hearkens back to 2nd grade, when a teacher encouraged him to have fun with crayons. Next, the teacher passed out watercolor paints and instructed Cassotta to apply them over the crayon drawings. The wax-crayons resisted the watercolors and produced vibrant textural results that were amazing. That visual stimulation put the artist on a lifelong search for new color combinations that continues today.
This original work began with a combination of acrylic paint & textured papers (most of which the artist has made himself, using sponge, stipple brush, lace, burlap, beach grass, and batik) all applied onto faux painted wood. He then builds over these images with additional collage cuttings.
