Melissa Riley graduated in 1975 from Emmanuel College with a BA in art and proceeded to spend the next 35 years teaching in the Attleboro Public School system. Melissa taught art for 15 years before budget cuts bumped her into the classroom where she taught for the next 20 years. After raising two children and enjoying retirement, Melissa has become an abstract landscape painter, with work exhibited at several galleries including True Grit, Zullo, Gallery Twist and the AAM.
"Morning Chill" represents a simplification of shapes created with a palette knife, illustrating the type of abstract work the artist is inspired to create. The moisture in the lavender sky will soon erupt into heavy rain.
